Dr Joanna Sanetra-Szeliga is participating in the European Heritage Hub (EHH) project, one of the largest European initiatives dedicated to cultural heritage, funded by the European Union and coordinated by Europa Nostra. Bringing together more than 20 organisations and institutions from across Europe, the project serves as a platform for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and the development of policy recommendations for the cultural heritage sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The project is currently entering its second phase (2026\u20132027), building on the achievements of the pilot phase implemented between 2023 and 2025. This new stage continues and expands activities aimed at strengthening cooperation within the European heritage community and generating evidence-based knowledge to support heritage policies and practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of the key research activities carried out within the project is \u201cMapping the Non-Governmental Heritage Sector in North and Western Europe,\u201d coordinated by the International Cultural Centre in Krak\u00f3w. The study covers eight countries\u2014Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden\u2014and seeks to analyse the structure, capacities, modes of operation, and challenges faced by non-governmental organisations working in the field of cultural heritage. Dr Joanna Sanetra-Szeliga is a member of the international research team conducting this study.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The project builds on previous research undertaken in Central and Eastern Europe, which resulted in a 2025 report examining the heritage NGO sector across ten countries in the region. The long-term objective is to extend the mapping exercise to the whole of Europe, providing the first comprehensive overview of the European non-governmental heritage sector and its contribution to safeguarding and promoting cultural heritage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
