A VISIT TO THE MUSEUM OF PHOTOGRAPHY IN CRACOW

On June 2, 2023, a group of Urban Studies students, as part of a Cultural Heritage Management class taught by KUE Professor Andrzej Laskowski, paid a visit to the Museum of Photography in Krakow (MuFo). The purpose of the visit to the branch of this institution, adjacent to the KUE campus, was to get acquainted with the dynamic transformation of MuFO in recent years, which for the first few decades of its existence functioned in modest conditions in its only premises at 16 Józefitow Street.
The visit of the Urban Studies students essentially consisted of two parts. During the first, the students had the opportunity to listen to a talk by MuFo’s director, Mr. Mark Swica, about the circumstances of the museum’s establishment, its activities, the profile of its collections, and the specifics and stages of its development, with particular emphasis on the transformation carried out over the past few years. The second part of the visit consisted of an individual tour of the facility at 22A Rakowicka Street, according to the instructions and explanations given at the exhibition by the museum director.

This useful visit – revealing such aspects of cultural heritage in the modern city as revitalization, the city museum and its mission, exhibition, management, sources of funding, promotion and marketing, among others – took place thanks to the kindness and great commitment on the part of MuFo director Mark Swica. There were also mutual declarations of further cooperation in the future.
