The HUMAIN – Navigating AI for Resilient and Sustainable Cultural and Creative Ecosystems project was officially launched in June 2026, with its kick-off meeting held at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków. Funded under the Horizon Europe programme, the project brings together a multidisciplinary consortium of nine partners from six European countries to explore the impact of artificial intelligence on the cultural and creative sectors.
Dr Joanna Sanetra-Szeliga is involved in the project as an expert through her collaboration with the Centrum Cyfrowe Foundation, one of the consortium partners. During the three-year project, researchers and practitioners will work together to develop knowledge, tools, and policy recommendations that support the responsible, ethical, and sustainable adoption of AI across the cultural and creative ecosystem.
The project addresses a wide range of issues, including intellectual property and human creativity, algorithmic diversity, AI ethics, and the socio-economic implications of technological transformation. Among its planned outcomes are the HUMAIN Toolkit and HUMAIN Academy, designed to provide practical support for creators, cultural institutions, and policymakers navigating the challenges and opportunities of AI.
Within the consortium, Centrum Cyfrowe is responsible for research on the ethical and socio-economic impact of AI and for the development of public policy recommendations at the European level. Dr Joanna Sanetra-Szeliga contributes her expertise to these activities, supporting research on the implications of emerging technologies for culture, creativity, and cultural heritage.
Coordinated by the Jagiellonian University, the project involves partners from Poland, Italy, Greece, Spain, the Netherlands, and Germany. Through its international and interdisciplinary approach, HUMAIN aims to become a leading European platform for understanding and shaping the relationship between artificial intelligence, culture, and creativity.
