This year’s summer school will be devoted to the heritage of the historic Gemer region, with a particular focus on the protection and promotion of late medieval architecture and the management of cultural routes. The programme will include lectures, workshops and study visits addressing, among other topics, the management of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the preparation of nominations for inscription on the World Heritage List, the protection of cultural landscapes and sacred heritage, and the role of heritage in the sustainable development of regions.
An integral part of the V4 Heritage Academy will be field workshop modules conducted along the Gothic Route in the Gemer region. Participants will visit, among other sites, Gothic churches, the Romanesque rotunda in Šivetice, the ruins of the monastery in Gombasek, palaces in Jelšava and Betliar, and sites connected with the region’s former mining and metallurgy industries. The event is organised by the International Cultural Centre in Kraków and the Monuments Board of the Slovak Republic, in cooperation with the Gothic Route organisation.
