DR HAB. PIOTR MIODUNKA, PROF. UEK

Piotr Miodunka, holds a post-doctoral degree (habilitation) in the humanities (specializing in history) and a Master of Laws degree, both from Jagiellonian University (where he also completed his Master’s and doctoral studies). He is an associate professor at the Department of Economic and Social History / UNESCO Chair for Heritage and Urban Studies at the Krakow University of Economics. His research focuses on the social and economic history of Poland from the Middle Ages to the 19th century, as well as historical demography, urban history and environmental history. He is the author of studies on individual cities (Kraków, Mielec, Pilzno, Wojnicz) and the monograph: Społeczność małych miast południowej Małopolski od końca XVI do końca XVIII wieku (2021). He is a co-author of Krakow: An Ecobiography (Polish title: Ekobiografia Krakowa), a pioneering work in Poland regarding environmental history. Recently, he has focused on crises in early modern Poland—particularly famines—a subject addressed in his habilitation publication: Chłopi południowej Małopolski wobec kryzysów żywnościowych od XVII do połowy XIX wieku (2024). He is also a member of the team preparing a modern history of the Polish peasantry.
